Anita Friedman is Director of Arlington County's Department of Human Services, where she oversees efforts to strengthen, protect and empower those in need in Arlington, VA, a County of 230,000 people located just across the river from Washington, D.C. The agency is an integrated, full-service human services organization that serves more than 60,000 residents a year. Major program areas include Aging and Disability Services, Behavioral Healthcare, Child and Family Services, Economic Independence, and Public Health. Previously, she worked for over 20 years in international development, managing social and economic development programs, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean. She has held positions as Chief of Operations for the Inter-America and Pacific Region of Peace Corps, Country Director of the Peace Corps/Dominican Republic, and Chief Operating Officer for the Latin American Youth Center in Washington, D.C. She has lived in Arlington since 1990 with her husband and two sons.
